Why the rice terrace in Bali become so special? It’s because of its subak. Subak is the name of the water management (irrigation) system for rice fields on Bali which was developed more than 1,000 years ago. For Balinese, irrigation is not simply providing water for the plant’s roots, but water is used to construct a complex, pulsed artificial ecosystem.
Subak is a system without any written law ( a complainlong time ago, some subaks has their written law now), but the member of the subak following the rule with complaint or violation. Balinese people believe, water is a blessing from the God (Dewi Sri, the god of fertility) and shall be divided equally.
The best moment when you’re walking along the dike is take a great shot with the farmer. To see how the farmer keep the rice field just like to taking care of his baby. If you are lucky, you might be have a chance to see and greet some cows in the middle of the field.
